President Donald Trump unveiled a monumental private-sector investment aimed at bolstering the United States’ artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. The initiative, named “Stargate,” is a collaborative effort between industry giants OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, with an investment commitment of up to $500 billion over the next four years.

The announcement was made at the White House, where President Trump was joined by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, and Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison. The initial phase of the project involves a $100 billion investment to construct 20 state-of-the-art data centers in Texas, each spanning half a million square feet.

These facilities are expected to create over 100,000 jobs and serve as the backbone for advanced AI applications, including the analysis of electronic health records to enhance patient care. President Trump emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative, stating that it positions the United States to outpace global competitors in critical AI technologies. He also highlighted the project’s potential to revolutionize various sectors, notably healthcare, by enabling early disease detection and personalized treatments.

The establishment of Stargate occurs after the rescission of the executive order of former President Joe Biden regarding AI, which had imposed certain regulatory constraints on the industry. The policy change aims to create an environment more amenable to the innovation and development of AI within the country.

The business leaders were strong supporters of the initiative. Masayoshi Son said that if it weren’t for President Trump’s leadership, “We wouldn’t have decided to do this unless you won.” Sam Altman emphasized how crucial the support from the administration would be toward the goal of artificial general intelligence within the domestic environment.

The Stargate project is poised to be a transformative force in the AI landscape, with its substantial investment and collaborative framework setting the stage for significant technological advancements and economic growth in the United States.
