Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds in the United States recorded their highest outflow day on Jan. 8 over the last three weeks as Bitcoin briefly dipped under $93k, resulting in market-wide panic among investors. Oklahoma’s Republican Senator Dusty Deevers has introduced the Bitcoin Freedom Act (SB325), a bill that would allow state employees and residents to use Bitcoin as a payment method for salaries and transactions. The legislation also enables vendors to accept Bitcoin payments. “In a time when inflation is eroding the purchasing power of hard-working Oklahomans, Bitcoin provides a unique opportunity to protect earnings and investments,” said Deevers, announcing the bill on January 8. He further emphasized, “As Bitcoin continues to rise and the value of the dollar continues to be printed away in Washington D.C., Oklahoma must act to protect our…
One of the secondary benefits of how the Lightning Network works as a scaling solution is privacy. It’s by no means perfect or undefeatable privacy, but it is a better than naive use of the base layer blockchain itself. It’s also not perfectly balanced. The sender learns a good many details about the receiver, but the receiver learns nothing about the sender. For casual payments it is a big improvement for consumers over on-chain payments. It does have one big problem though, something not unique to Lightning, but a problem for all onion routed systems. Global Passive Adversaries. That means…
This is Trump’s first NFT project on Bitcoin. The full collection will feature 200 cards, with 40 more expected to drop soon. Earlier, Trump introduced NFT projects like “Trump Digital Trading Cards,” including the “America First” series in August 2024. That collection offered unique perks like gold sneakers and meals with Trump but has seen little trading activity since its release. The new Bitcoin-based collection, however, seems to be gaining traction. Reports suggest 29% of the cards have already been minted. The broader NFT market showed mixed results in 2024. Total sales reached $8.8 billion, up by $100 million from 2023. Ethereum…
The foundation is currently in the phase of restructuring its communications activities. Several members of our current communications team in London are soon leaving or reducing their involvement in the Foundation in order to pursue for-profit ventures on top of the Ethereum ecosystem; we wish them the best of luck. And so, we have both the necessity and a unique opportunity to “reboot” that side of the organization and take another look at how the Ethereum foundation interacts with the community. As some initial steps, we are going to do the following: We will make an effort to de-emphasize Skype,…
