One of the most popular Ethereum wallets, MetaMask, is still considering launching its native token for users, further magnifying its presence in the fast-moving crypto industry.
In a recent podcast with TheBlock, MetaMask co-founder Dan Finlay revealed that the Ethereum wallet is still considered a native token. While replying to this long-standing question regarding the native token launch, Dan has hinted that his firm “maybe” has some plan.
When asked in the interview when the company is planning to launch its token, Dan said, “Maybe, if the token is issued, it will be directly promoted in the wallet, and users can find the link directly in the wallet.”
Although Finlay may have hinted at launching the token in the future, there are currently no concrete plans.
MetaMask has been debating the release of a token tentatively called MASK since 2021. The CEO of ConsenSys—the company behind MetaMask wallet—Joseph Lubin had also leaked a preview and clarified the goal of releasing a native token and DAOs on a progressive decentralization strategy in 2022.
However, the firm has not yet publicly disclosed any details of the token in measures to prevent airdrop hunters from employing any illicit activities.
